While I have been unable to find any photos of Piccaire from when it was inhabited, I have placed a few of the Whalers Cave that was rediscovered a short time ago, (courtesy of the Gaultois Public Library and Phillis Harris.) Local Folklore has it that the Cave served as a lookout and place of rest for those involved in the whaling industry that was prominent around the surrounding area around the turn of the 19th century. It is more or less an arrangement of huge rocks that together form many different rooms and crevices. It lies approximately 1 - 2 miles east of Piccaire. |
